Positive: Large whole house. Had some recreational parts like a pool table. The small garden was nice and the owner was responsive.

Negative: It was a hodgepodge of stuff. Not decorated or built with a central plan. The toilets weren't cleaned very well. It felt like staying at your uncle's place, if your uncle was a bachelor. Practical and accommodating enough only. Very steep stairs also.

Summary: Best for Young Adults, I think

Positive: The location is superb, right in the old town streets area and just a charming 10 minute stroll along the river to the castle.

Negative: Nothing to dislike. It is certainly a place that would benefit from travelling with a group of friends due the wide array of social spaces and entertainment facilities. So, not really a negative, just felt a bit empty with me as the only guest.

Summary: Superb location and a wonderful array of entertainment and social spaces.

Positive: It is a very spacious property with a lot of playful collections in it. It is actually a shop/residence in a fading commercial street with a ping pong table to greet you when you enter the property. A very special experience to stay in such a place.

Negative: Toilets and shower room are too far away from the bedroom, which is very common in Japanese properties. Yet, it is a bit inconvenient.

Positive: Location was close to the sights. We were there in winter and there were lots of heaters so it wasn't cold except when going to the bathroom through an outdoor walkway. The bedroom and living room were very comfortable. There was also a TV and games room but we didn't use that. The host was helpful and ordered a taxi for us as the taxi companies only spoke Japanese.

Negative: The cold outdoor walkway to the bathroom but I accept that it's because it's an old building. Note- the downstairs area has been reconfigured into multiple rooms so the photos on the site of the downstairs area overlooking the indoor garden are outdated. Just for your info. It didn't affect us.

Positive: This charming Japanese style house was old but very well appointed with a new, hot shower and toilet. The beds were comfortable and warm, even in the very cold weather experienced that day. The owner was a nice, friendly guy who introduced us to the house, and the affectionate old house cat. We loved our stay here and can highly recommend it for a unique Iyo-Ouzu stay.
